Canada Fund for Local Initiatives – ASEAN 

The CFLI is a program designed to support community-based, small-scale development projects in ASEAN countries, which align with Global Affairs Canada’s thematic priority areas for engagement. The program prioritizes inclusive governance, peace and security, and inclusive economic growth, with strong emphasis on locally led initiatives.

Funding Organization: Government of Canada

Eligibility:
• Local non-governmental, community and not-for-profit organizations,
• Local academic institutions working on local projects,
• International non-governmental organizations working on local development activities,
• Intergovernmental, multilateral and regional institutions, organizations and agencies working on local development activities,
• Municipal, regional or national government institutions or agencies of the recipient country working on local projects, and
• Canadian non-governmental and not-for-profit organizations that are working on local development activities.
Projects must:
• Have impact in at least three ASEAN countries, OR
• Include participants from at least three ASEAN countries
All projects must align with at least 1 of the following thematic priorities:
• Inclusive governance, including democracy, human rights and women’s political participation.
• Peace and security, with a focus on Women, Peace, Security, Cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, maritime security and areas where Canadian expertise can add value to ASEAN-Canada Strategic Partnership Plan of Action.
• Growth that works for everyone, including women’s economic rights and economic security.
Beyond these themes, initiatives that address the following priority sub-themes will be prioritized:
• AI governance
• Online scam centres
• Youth and peacebuilding
• Women, Peace and Security
• The intersection of economic security and gender equality
• Democratic governance
• Maritime cooperation

Maximum Award: Typically CAD 20,000–40,000, with a maximum of CAD 100,000.
