1. Accelerating Development of Innovative, Exceptionally Low-Cost Maternal and Child Nutrient Ingredients and Products

The Gates Foundation’s Grand Challenges program seeks bold, scalable, and sustainable innovations to dramatically lower the cost of essential nutrient ingredients and supplements while maintaining or improving quality, safety, and user acceptability.

Funding Organization: The Gates Foundation

Scope
Applicants may propose projects under one of the following options:
• Option A – Development of exceptionally low-cost nutrient ingredients (calcium, choline, DHA) with ≥50% cost reduction vs current lowest prices; pharmaceutical quality; stable, allergen-free, culturally inclusive.
• Option B – Development of a low-cost prenatal supplement (MMS + 500 mg calcium) targeting a cost below US$2 per 180-day regimen; consumer informed; 6-month accelerated stability in Zone Ivb.
• Option C – Development of an advanced prenatal supplement (MMSplus) with consumer informed; 6-month accelerated stability in Zone IVb.

Eligibility: Applications are open globally to nonprofit and for-profit organizations, government agencies, academic institutions, and international organizations, with applicants required to apply through a legally recognized corporate entity. The Foundation encourages collaborations that include LMIC partners and bring complementary expertise.

Maximum Award:
Option A – up to US$500,000 per ingredient (18 months)
Option B – up to US$200,000 (12 months)
Option C – up to US$400,000 (12 months)

Application Process: All applications must be submitted online at https://gcgh.grandchallenges.org/challenge/accelerating-development-innovative-exceptionally-low-cost-maternal-and-child-nutrient

Application Deadline: 16 December 2025

2. Satellites for Biodiversity Award -Round 4

The Satellites for Biodiversity Award empowers conservationists with very-high-resolution satellite imagery from Airbus’s Pléiades and Pléiades Neo satellites. The award combines technical tools, training, and funding to help organisations and field teams monitor ecosystems, evaluate biodiversity, and plan conservation actions at unprecedented precision.

Funding Organization: The Connected Conservation Foundation and the Airbus Foundation

Focus Areas:
• State of Species: Projects focusing on the state of species abundance, distribution and extinction risks to threats from environmental, social or commercial pressures. These projects assess threat level (IUCN Red List threat level), population sizes and extinction drivers, including changes in habitat area and quality.
• Invasive Species: Projects investigating introducing, spreading and managing invasive plant or animal species.
• Ecosystem Management: Projects that track and inform management practices and operations, especially within or near biodiversity-sensitive areas. Including early-warning solutions that enable a response to mitigate conservation issues.
• Ecosystem Connectivity: Projects examining changes to “spatial configuration,” “structural connectivity,” and “functionality connectivity” – focusing on maintaining or enhancing the physical, biological and ecological linkages within and between ecosystems.

Eligibility:
• Local conservation organisations
• NGOs engaged in biodiversity and ecosystem protection
• Research groups focusing on ecological monitoring or community-led conservation
• Teams integrating machine learning or GIS tools with conservation initiatives

Projects that combine satellite observations with community engagement and applied conservation actions are highly encouraged.

Benefits:
• Access to Pléiades and Pléiades Neo satellite data, including HD15
• $6,000 in funding
• Complimentary ArcGIS Pro from ESRI for advanced mapping and analysis
• Ongoing mentorship and technical support from CCF and Airbus geospatial experts
• Publication of results in the Ecosystem Insight Hub

Application Process: All applications must be submitted online at https://connectedconservation.foundation/satellite-awards/

Application Deadline: 19 December 2025
