1. Call for proposals 2026: Ophthalmology institutional research capacity strengthening in low- and middle-income countries
The ophthalmology program of Velux Stiftung aims contribute to ultimately reducing visual impairments and blindness in in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) through research funding.
Funding Organization: VELUX STIFTUNG Foundation, Switzerland
Focus: Long-lasting institutional research capacity strengthening (IRCS) in LMICs, with any of the following objectives:
• Increase scientific quality, scientific outputs at the level of the institution
• Attract research funding and increase funding volume
• Attract and retain excellent researchers/Provide research perspectives for young academics
• Increase leadership of institutions
• Increase the dissemination and transfer of the research outputs
• Establish local expertise centres
• Develop research networks and facilitate collaborations
• Develop centres of excellence
Eligibility:
• Consortia of research groups with at least one partner based in a LMIC are invited to apply. The involvement of a high-income country (HIC) partner is welcome but not mandatory.
• The project should mainly take place in one or several LMICs.
• At least one PI or co-PI has to be an established (R3) or a leading researcher (R4) in ophthalmology according to the European Framework for research careers.
• At least a member of the LMIC research institution’s executive/leadership team (member of senior management and decision-making body) should be included in the project team as PI or co-PIs.
• In case the PI is based in a HIC, there must be a clearly delineated partnership with and scientific leadership from the co-PI based in the LMIC where the project takes place, following the principles for fair and equal partnership.
• Project partners (PI and co-PIs) should be embedded in at least two different institutions. Applications originating from only one research institution will not be considered.
• NGOs can be part of the consortia as co-PI or collaborator if academic research institutions are involved as PIs.
• Every involved institution (of the PI or co-PI) should provide a support letter.
Maximum Award: Up to CHF 75’000 per year for up to four years.

2. NNF-IAS Fellowship in Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden
The eight Nordic Institutes for Advanced Studies are pleased to announce the call for fellowships in the NNF-IAS fellowship programme on Health and Sustainability, supported by the Novo Nordisk Foundation.
Theme: Inequity in Health
Eligibility: Applicants apply individually, but the selected candidates are also expected to work together as a group during the fellowship and occasionally travel to the other Nordic Institutes for Advanced Studies. The fellowship call is open for curiosity-driven researchers and welcomes applications from researchers:
• of any nationality and from all academic disciplines with research profiles within the thematic scope of the call.
• who have a career experience of 2 to 10 years after completion of the PhD (PhD training period will not be considered in the calculation of experience).
• who comply with a mobility demand as applicants must not have resided or carried out their main work activity in the country of priority for more than 12 months in the two years immediately prior to the deadline of the call.
• who are excited about taking part in an interdisciplinary, cross-Nordic research endeavor.
• who demonstrate mobility and are willing to reside in the country of the hosting institute for the duration of the fellowship.
Awards: The fellowship includes salary, research funding, relocation support, and institutional resources.

3. IMU-Simons Research Fellowship Program for Developing Countries
The IMU-Simons Research Fellowship Program for Developing Countries (2024-2027) supports mathematicians from developing countries to travel to a mathematical institution for collaborative research for up to three months. The research visit has to be tied to a specific research project and a collaborating institute.
Funding Organization: International Mathematical Union (IMU)’s Commission for Developing Countries (CDU)
Research Scope: Mathematics
Eligibility: Applicants must
• hold a PhD in Mathematics;
• be based (place of work) in a developing country.
• be employed as a faculty member of a university or an equivalent institution;
• have already established contact with a mathematician in the host institution and have a definite research plan at the time of applying for the grant;
• be granted appropriate leave of absence from his/her institution for the period of visit;
• visit for at least a period of one month.
Awards: The awarded amount ranges between USD5,000 – USD15,000 for up to a maximum duration of three months.
