1. ERC Advanced Grant

The ERC Advanced Grant supports an established, leading principal investigator of any nationality who wants long-term funding to pursue a ground-breaking, ambitious project.

Funding Organization: European Research Council (ERC)

Research Scope: Any scientific field, but research must be conducted in a public or private research organisation (host institution) located in one of the EU Member States or Associated Countries. The PI does not need to be employed by the host institution at the time of proposal submission, but a mutual agreement and commitment are necessary if the proposal is successful.

Eligibility: The grants are open to established researchers of any nationality who have a track-record of significant research achievements. Research must be conducted in a public or private research organisation located in one of the EU Member States or Associated Countries. The PI does not need to be employed by the host institution at the time of proposal submission, but a mutual agreement and commitment are necessary if the proposal is successful.

Maximum Award: Up to 2.5 million EUR for up to 5 years, plus an additional 1 million EUR for “start-up” costs for researchers moving from a third country to the EU or an associated country and/or the purchase of major equipment and/or access to large facilities and/or other major experimental and field work costs.

• develop a research proposal

• create a profile on the Funding & tenders portal (https://ec.europa.eu/info/funding-tenders/opportunities/portal/screen/how-to-participate/participant-register). Then, select the call for proposals you wish to apply for, ie. ERC Advanced Grants and use the proposal online form to submit your proposal before the deadline.

2. ERC Plus Grant

The ERC Plus Grant supports outstanding researchers from Europe and anywhere in the world with bold ideas and a vision for transformative research that goes beyond the scope of existing ERC programmes.

Funding Organization: European Research Council (ERC)

Eligibility: The grants are open to researchers at all career stages of any nationality who have an outstanding record of scientific achievement at the forefront of their field. Research must be conducted in a public or private research organisation located in one of the EU Member States or Associated Countries. The PI does not need to be employed by the host institution at the time of proposal submission, but a mutual agreement and commitment are necessary if the proposal is successful.

Maximum Award: Up to 7 million EUR for up to 7 years.
