The Darwin Initiative is a UK Government grants scheme that supports communities to find just, scalable, and sustainable ways to conserve and restore nature while growing their economies and reducing poverty.
Scope: Biodiversity conservation and poverty reduction
Type of Project: Focused on developing the capability and capacity of national
and local organizations
Eligibility
• Projects must be implemented in an eligible country and within an eligible biodiversity hotspot (or marine/freshwater environment). Thailand is eligible for funding under projects addressing the Indo-Burma Hotspot.
• Applications must be made by the Lead Organization, not an individual. Foreign governments and their agencies cannot be Lead Organizations, except for universities that receive government funding; UK government agencies can be Lead Organizations or partners.
• All projects are required to be led by or partner with local/national organizations of the country or countries in which it is based, with the meaningful and early engagement of in-country stakeholders.
Maximum Award: Ranging from £75,000 to £250,000 for a duration of 1 to 3 years.
Application Process: Applications must be submitted through the Flexi-Grant application portal https://bcfs.flexigrant.com/.
