Three international research grants for 2026 are now open:
1. Request for Proposals: Strengthening Community-based Coastal and Riverine Stewardship (Deadline: 31 May 2026)
2. Mohamed bin Zayed Species Conservation Fund (Deadline: 31 May 2026)

1. Request for Proposals: Strengthening Community-based Coastal and Riverine Stewardship
 
The program supports community-led projects focused on conserving coastal and riverine ecosystems, with priorities on local leadership, climate resilience, and sustainable ecosystem management.
 
Funding Organization: Lindblad Expeditions and National Geographic Society
 
Eligibility: Applications are open to individuals worldwide who are over the age of 18 with a strong connection to and/or an existing track record of work in the community(ies) where the project will take place, or by a member of the community themselves, and be designed in response to community needs.
 
Maximum Award:
• Level I (Early-Career Applicants): Up to USD 20,000 for up to 1 year
• Level II (Advanced Projects): Up to USD 75,000 for up to 2 years
 
Application Process: Applications must be submitted online via the National Geographic Society grants management system.
 
Application Deadline: 31 May 2026
 
 
To support interested applicants, the Society will host informational webinars on 30 April and 12 May.

2. Mohamed bin Zayed Species Conservation Fund
 
The Mohamed bin Zayed Species Conservation Fund supports individuals and organizations working to conserve threatened species.
 
Funding Organization: Mohamed bin Zayed Species Conservation Fund
 
Research Scope: Field-based conservation actions such as research, habitat restoration, and community engagement, with priority given to critically endangered, endangered, and data-deficient species
 
Eligibility: The application is open anyone directly involved in species conservation.
 
Maximum Award: The maximum grant size is $25,000.
 
Application Process: Applications must be submitted online via the Fund portal.
 
Application Deadline: Application opens from 1-31 May 2026.

3. Thrive Grant for Plant-Based Food Systems and Sustainable Alternatives
 
The Thrive Grant is a global funding opportunity designed to support organizations working to transform food systems by reducing reliance on industrial animal agriculture. The program focuses on accelerating the transition toward plant-based, sustainable, and equitable food systems.
 
Funding Organization: Thrive Philanthropy
 
Scope: Plant-based, sustainable, and equitable food systems
 
Eligibility:
• Non-profit organizations
• Based outside the United States
• Independent entities (not international branches of U.S.-based organizations)
• Annual budget typically under $500,000 USD
• Strong reputation within their community and stakeholder network
 
Maximum Award: Grants range from $10,000 to $30,000 USD.
