1. MDx Impact Grants

The MDx Impact Grants aim to unlock the potential of PCR to democratise access to accurate diagnostic tests that improve patient outcomes. The programme provides researchers with access to Seegene’s syndromic PCR technology and development grants to perform clinical studies.

Funding Organization: Nature In partnership with Seegene

Scope: The 2025 MDx Impact Grants focus on Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) Drug Resistance (DR) genes that correspond to clinically important antibiotic resistance genes, such as, CTX-M, KPC, NDM and vanA. The proposal must include a minimum of nine (9) and up to a maximum of eighteen (18) target genes excluding internal controls.

Eligibility: Applications are open to eligible research groups worldwide. Research groups are required to have access to BSL-2 (Biosafety level 2) facilities, experience in PCR, access to relevant clinical specimens and eligibility to conduct clinical studies for in vitro diagnostic (IVD) validation in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements.

Maximum Award: The programme provides researchers with access to Seegene’s syndromic PCR technology and development grants of up to 600,000 USD to perform clinical studies.

2. Wellcome Career Development Awards

This award provides funding for mid-career researchers from any discipline and based in the UK, the Republic of Ireland, or low- and middle-income countries who have the potential to be international research leaders.

Funding Organization: Wellcome Trust

Research Scope: Dicovery research that has the potential to improve human life, health, and wellbeing.

Eligibility: The scheme is open to mid-career researchers who:
• have completed one or two substantial periods of research after his/her initial research training
• have made important contributions to his/her area of research.
• are based in the UK, the Republic of Ireland, or low- and middle-income countries, excluding India and mainland China.

Maximum Award: A Wellcome Career Development Award provides a salary for the grantholder (if required) and up to £250,000 research expenses.
