The HFSP Research Grants from the Human Frontier Science Program (HFSP) support innovative basic research into fundamental biological problems with emphasis placed on novel and interdisciplinary approaches that involve scientific exchanges across national and disciplinary boundaries. The research grants are provided for teams of scientists from different countries who wish to combine their expertise in innovative approaches to questions that could not be answered by individual laboratories.

Funding Organization: Human Frontier Science Program implemented by the International Human Frontier Science Program Organization (HFSPO)

Scope: Frontier research in life sciences
Eligibility: The teams should be multi-disciplinary in nature and with members from different countries. All team members must have had postdoctoral training and are in the early stages of establishing their independent research groups. The principal investigator must have his/her primary laboratory in one of the member countries (see list below), but other team members may be from anywhere in the world as long as the teams fulfill the basic international requirements described in the guidelines.

Maximum Award: The Award provides research funding for 3 years and the exact amount depends on the team size, e.g. teams of 2 receive 300,000 USD/year; teams of 4 receive 500,000 USD/year (including open access publishing fees and up to 10% of funding may be used for indirect costs).

Application Process: Applicants must submit a letter of intent to apply for a research grant via the HFSP application site with a deadline at the end of March, and after review, selected teams will be invited to submit a full proposal.

Application Deadline:
Compulsory initiation of a letter of Intent by obtaining an LOI ID number (1XXXXXX) by 18 March 2025.
Submission of Letters of Intent: 27 March 2025.
